Look, I get it. You type "hair salon near me" into Google and your salon is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, that mediocre salon down the street shows up first. Frustrating? Absolutely. But here's the thing - this has nothing to do with your skills behind the chair.
I've been coaching salon owners for years now, and I see this problem all the time. Your talent is probably incredible. Your clients love you. But if people can't find you online, you're basically invisible. And here's what I know after working with hundreds of salon owners - this is completely fixable.
Here's What Google Actually Cares About
Google isn't complicated when it comes to local search. It wants to know three simple things about your salon:
- What services you offer
- Where you're located
- Why clients should trust you
That's it. When Google understands these three things clearly, you show up. When it doesn't, you get buried on page 10 where nobody ever looks. And here's what drives me crazy - I see salon owners spending thousands on Facebook ads while their Google Business Profile looks like it was set up by a 12-year-old.
The Local Pack is Where the Money Is
You know that map that shows up at the top when you search for salons? That's called the local pack. Those top three spots are pure gold. Most people click there first because it's easy - they can see your reviews, call you directly, or get directions.
Getting into that local pack can literally double your bookings. I've seen it happen over and over. But if you're not there, you're leaving serious money on the table while your competitors are booking your potential clients.
Why Your Salon Is Actually Invisible
After coaching salon owners through my salon growth strategy framework, I see the same problems every time:
Your Google Business Profile is a mess. Missing hours, wrong phone number, no category selected. Google can't figure out what you do or where you are.
You have like three reviews from 2019. Google loves salons with fresh, consistent reviews. They show trust and activity. If you're not actively asking for reviews, you're invisible.
Your NAP is all over the place. That's Name, Address, Phone number. If these don't match exactly across your website, Google profile, and directories, Google gets confused and stops showing you.
Your website doesn't help you. If your site doesn't clearly mention your location and services, loads slowly, or looks terrible on mobile, Google won't rank you.
You're not creating local content. Google wants to see that you're active in your community. If you're not posting about local events or engaging locally, you look irrelevant.
How to Fix This Using Business Systems
Here's what I like to do with my Level Up Academy members. We treat this like any other business system - not some mysterious marketing thing.
Using principles from EOS, we set a clear Rock (that's a 90-day goal) to get into the local pack. Then we assign someone on your team to own your online presence. This isn't something you do once and forget about.
And here's where proper SEO strategy comes in. You need to audit your time like Dan Martell teaches in Buy Back Your Time. Find 30 minutes daily or a few hours weekly to focus on this stuff:
- Standardize your NAP everywhere
- Ask every happy client for a Google review
- Respond to reviews professionally
- Update your website with clear service and location pages
- Create local content that shows you're part of the community
The stylists who work with me through our salon SEO program see results fast. We're talking about salons going from invisible to fully booked in 90 days. But it requires consistent effort, not just hoping things will change.
This is About Working ON Your Business
You know what Michael Gerber says in the E-Myth - you need to work ON your business, not just IN it. SEO isn't some optional extra. It's part of building a business that brings clients to you instead of you chasing them.
Social media posts are great, but they disappear. Paid ads work until you stop paying. But when someone searches for a salon and finds you organically? That's a client who's already looking for what you offer. That's the best kind of lead.
And here's the thing - if you're serious about growing your salon, you can't figure this out alone. You need systems. You need accountability. That's exactly what we do in the Level Up Academy.
If you want to stop being invisible and start showing up where your clients are actually looking, apply to work with me. Because hiding your talent doesn't serve anyone - not you, not your team, and definitely not the clients who need to find you.
